TOP PHOTO 007 | IJsselmeer ice-drift, February 2012 Overview |
Initially I had another Top Photo in mind.
However, I changed my mind and have chosen one that is part of a recent series. I don't reckon it to be my very best work, but I judged it worthwhile because it shows the phenomenon of drift-ice in the Netherlands. And that's something that does not happen too often.
A few weeks ago I was with friends on an NFG-weekend in the north-east part of the Netherlands. On the way back home on Monday we visited the small town of Hindeloopen. We had heard about masses of ice in front of the dike, which had attracted lots of people causing traffic jams the day before. When we arrived it was still quite busy, but one could live with it. Of course the ice was quite polluted, but proceeding towards the lake (which is a risk by the way; I went through the ice pretty soon) it was possible to take pictures without visible human influence.
The gallery 'Netherlands' shows more photos of the series.
Although the wide-angle shot that I have chosen here, doesn't show the "ice-bergs" which were the main attraction, it does nicely reflect the atmosphere with its beautiful evening clouds.
